A story of a father, friend and business partner

Dad, Fred Ferrell, began his business as Ferrell Welding in the late 70's. Prior to that, he was the first employee of Westinghouse Turbine Plant in Charlotte, N.C. Fred also held an ďAĒ classification as a welder and Fabricator for Westinghouse.
While attending high school I was my dadís helper. We formed a partnership in the late 80's called Ferrell's Fabricating & Erecting.

During the term of our partnership, we performed field service welding in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. Additionally, we installed stairs and railings for Mitchell & Becker of Charlotte N.C. (now known as the Steel Yard). My dad and I were also involved in the IBM Buildings expansion as steel erectors and welders, and hired a crew of 15 for this project.

Ferrellís Fabricating and Erecting was responsible for fabricating and installing stairs and railings for nearly all motels constructed locally in the 80's and 90's. A few of our other projects included piping jobs for Celanese Corporation of America in Rock Hill, S.C., renovating the facade of Beaty Mall (currently known as Winthrop Commons), and welding projects at Discovery Place and Spirit Square in Charlotte.

In the late 90's, SteelCraft Products was born. I originated this company for the purpose of manufacturing wild bird feeding hardware. We manufactured feeder poles, baffles, hooks, hangers and more. Several of our prestigious customers included Wild Bird Centers of America and Wild Bird Market Place. We shipped our products to their stores across the southeast, north as far as Connecticut, and as far west as New Mexico.

I am now manufacturing barbecue smokers and grills for personal, business, and competition use. In 1987 I built my first whole hog smoker out of a 280 gallon oil drum. I still have that old smoker!

My invaluable experience in the welding and fabrication industry has given me the background I need to succeed in my new venture.. I learned early in life that top quality workmanship and honesty are two essential elements to success.

I look forward to new friendships and serving you in the near future...

    Regards,

    Scott R. Ferrell

I have the opportunity to talk to Scott a lot over the last few months. He does goods work and you should get him to send you pictures of the cabinet cooker he has made. A great looking piece. I was hoping to get to cook with it at Rock Hill, but the painter was not finished. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity soon to cook on it or one lie it.

    Hey Scotty,

Nice looking unit. I cook on similar units and hope to be able to see yours up close. If you ever need someone to try one out and truely put it to the test, give me a call. Carolina Pit Masters is always looking for a new experience.

    Good Q!
