John Haney at Alveron builds a fine pipe burner. He uses slots instead of holes making it pretty too.

John posts here on occasion, I'm sure he will be around soon.

    Good Q!

I have a cooker with a pipe. i dont remember the size of the hole, i think 3/32, but the key is to make it continuous, to regulate pressure. if you imagine a P squared off that is what i have. the holes are 1 inch centered. Bottom of the P is where I attached the gas. I used the bottom half of a tobacco burner and attached the gas to that. I can see it in my head, hopefully I explained it so you can understand.

If you happen to be going to the bbq cooking class I'll have my cooker and it has a pipe burner.

PostSubject: pipe burners   Thu Mar 11, 2010 8:42 pm

I have built pipe burners for years. In my black smoker I have 2 , 1 1/2 inch burners , 65 inches long, 65K btu. They have a cross tube allowing each burner to light the other burner. The smoker also has a 1 inch burner the same lenght for the smothered wood box. All of the burners have a mixer, valve, orfice and extension for air/fuel to mix before the first slot.

I built my own burners using 1/2" ID black pipe. I actually built 5 burners. Four of one size and another to do the job of two smaller ones.
If you could post your email, i can send you a video of the burner if yoy like. I can also explain it a little more if you are interested.
