    We are pleased to announce a new event for 2009….

    The Art of Barbeque Presented by Greenwood’s own Carolina Pride
    Friday, July 3 5:30 PM
    Arts and Visitors Center at the Federal Building (120 Main Street Greenwood, SC)
    BBQ Cooking School featuring pit master Charles Fretwell of Boiling Springs, SC
    Entry Fee - $50
    Charles Fretwell, of BS Pitmeister cook team, has won over 200 top ten awards including 22 grand and 15 reserve grand champion placements and 4 top five awards at the prestigious Jack Daniels Invitational BBQ Cook-off. If you are a serious backyard cook….want to learn a little about competitive BBQ…THIS CLASS IS FOR YOU!
    Entry fee includes meal.
    Tentative class schedule:
    5:30 - 5:40 Introductions and thanks.
    5:40 - 6:00 Rib preparation and cooking tips, Q & A time, brief bbq history.
    6:00 - 6:30 Chicken preparation and cooking tips, Q &A time.
    6:30 -7:00 Boston Butt preparation and cooking tips with an explanation of bbq seasonings. Q & A time.
    7:00 - 7:25 Beef Brisket preparation and cooking. Q & A time.
    7:25 - 7:30 Conclusion and final thoughts.
    7:30 til Dinner with Q & A time.

    That would be a great class to attend. It would be some great insight into a great cook. Sure would make for a BBQ July. Three trips to the upstate and a trip to Columbia...all four weekends BBQ. Ole Blue Eyes might not buy that one...

    We're receiving numbers of entries daily for the cooking class Friday, July 3....if you plan to take the class...better get your application in ASAP. We're looking at cutting it off at 50.

    Thanks for posting that Charlie, I gave out several entry forms to folks last weekend that gave a verbal commitment although they may reconsider after the way I scored at Tryon.

    Do not let that deadline scare you, you will be welcome at the door. I just needed a rough head count so I will know how much supplies, handout, and food, etc are needed. This is going to be a very intensive knowledge packed couple of hours. We will be inside in a classroom setting mostly and will cover the four main KCBS meats (chicken, ribs, boston butt, brisket) plus some things that are focused on the backyarder.
    I look forward to seeing everyone!
