| My new toy. A "Superior Smokers" insulated cooker. Link to Album: http://picasaweb.google.com/BBQCarolina/NewSuperiorSmokersCooker?feat=directlink This is a prototype model that I am cooking on to test and evaluate. I picked it up New Years eve and brought it home. Holds heat real well. Looks to be a good cooking machine. If anyone is interested, I can tell you what is changing for production. First 5 production units are being built now by the company. *and no Tim, it doesn't have a door painted on the side of it.... that's a reflection* |

Did you look at the album? That's all I got right now. I'll take more next weekend while I'm cooking on it. |

| That is a nice looking unit. One thing I would change is the location of the stack. It might drip condensation on the meat under it. |

| From what I've been told... the website will be up in the next couple of days.
This is Joby Stanaland's new company. Many of you will remember Joby from his days promoting and marketing Stumps.
Joby is from FLA, so I guess that is where the company is based... I met him approx half way for the both of us to get this one. |

I bought my Stumps from Joby, he's been working on that thing for years. Marketed it as Dixie Boys Cookers before he had a product. |

What's different besides the location of the chimney? |

| I was not going to say it looked like a Stumps clone. Actually the skin is done better than a Stump. Not as wavy. And it has a 9 lite side door to boot! |

Doors open 180* vs Stumps 88* or so degrees.
Smaller 'foot print'.
The heat deflector/ grease drain is a single unit, The grease drains down through the center of the cooker. The bottom cooking rack supports are designed to direct the dripping grease into grease pan so that very little grease actually ends up on the cookbox 'floor'.
(I think) the chute is reverse tapered on all 4 sides to reduce the chances of getting a charcoal 'bridge'.
Less 'waviness' in the sheet metal. Better paint job.
Not that this is a difference, but heat seems to be very evenly distributed throughout the cooker. There is a slight hot spot at the front rh (looking at it) lower corner. I'm told that changes are being made to correct that in the ones that are being built right now.
I'm not saying anything against Stumps cookers (I cook with Common Interest and we use a Stumps (as well as other cookers))... The Superior Smokers cooker and Stumps cookers are like Klose and Gater Pits... Similar but different. Both good cookers. |
